Burger King sex case: Carrols Corp. pays $2.5 million to settle federal claims

Carrols Corp., the nation's largest franchisee of Burger King restaurants, has agreed to pay $2.5 million to settle federal claims of sexual harassment from 89 female employees around the country. The Associated Press reports that the settlement ends a 14-year lawsuit, one of the most extensive in the history of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The EEOC claims that Carrols employees subjected women to obscene comments, unwanted touching, exposure of genitalia, strip searches, and rape.

The company does not admit to any wrongdoing. According to a statement, they settled the case to avoid litigation costs. The settlement also requires that the company improve its ability to respond to sexual harassment claims in the future.
